REGENERATIVE MEDICINE – TIPS, BENEFITS AND PRACTICALITIES OF USING PLATELET RICH PLASMA IN VETERINARY PRACTICE

Speaker: Russell Chandler , Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Orthopaedics

Thursday 17th November: 14:00 - 15:00 - Exhibitor Showcase Theatre

The practice of musculoskeletal disease management is undergoing a rapid expansion in available treatment modalities. The traditional approaches of single drug therapy and activity restriction are rapidly disappearing. Clinicians need to be equipped with a broad knowledge of the recent developments in order to integrate these into a logical and individualised package of treatments. Platelet rich plasma lends itself to management of a variety of conditions most notably osteoarthritis and musculoskeletal trauma. It is a relatively simple and safe method of introducing regenerative medicine into a practice setting.

Learning Outcome:

  1. Why PRP is useful
  2. When PRP can be used
  3. How PRP is administered
  4. Where PRP is in the multimodal osteoarthritis algorithm
